Hello!
My name is Cheryl Hird and my label is …Chezzle… which has been my nick name for most of my life.

My passion is Knitwear design and making accessories. I have previously worked in the knitwear industry for 5 years both full time and freelance for high street suppliers. I have been designing and making knitted accessories, bags & garments to sell since 2007 where I organised Markets, such as East London Design Market, selling online and in small parties around Christmas time and continue to do so whilst working in Healthcare and studying as well!

A lot of my work has previously been quite quirky and fun, I get inspired by things that make me laugh, things that people wouldn't necessarily associate with knitting such as graphic signs and unusual scale and proportion such as in The Borrowers. I love the different textures and patterns that can be created through knitting and for its versatility. I hand and machine knit fabrics using a variety of yarns and processes. There are still so many techniques I want to learn so my work is constantly evolving.

I believe in Slow Fashion not Fast Fashion and therefore the need for recycling and reusing. I create things using unused garments and reusing fabrics and trims to create new and exciting garments and accessories which makes for exciting things as they are often truely unique one offs! I also love mixing and matching things like vintage, crafts and old techniques. I use Merino wool for its soft luxurious feel as well as cottons, acrylic blends and for my accessories & bags soft leather and cotton fabrics. My label (not officially a company!) is about having fun with clothing and accessories and enjoying handmade one off pieces that no one else will have.

I'm a Christian too and believe that my worship to God is through the use of the creative gifts he's given me.  Therefore the main aim for me to continue designing and making is to raise money to do what you might call charity work in Jordan Middle East to help design, teach and produce textile items with young deaf women, for more details on this see News/Events section here
